Tom Gaisford, author of Sanctuary revisits a favourite writing haunt In Admiral Park, Guernsey, half visible from Elizabeth Avenue, there lies an earth-sheltered, semi-subterranean hideout with high ceilings, gentle jazz and the best coffee on the island. Its name, ‘Good Rebel', would well describe Alex Donovan, the flawed protagonist of my debut novel, Sanctuary. And perhaps that’s no accident: it was there at table 10, tucked away from view on the far side of the half-moon bar, that I wrote the final draft.
Thanks to owner Steve Hopkins’ smart idea to mark table 10 with a QR code, there’s a chance you’re sitting at it right now. If that’s the case, I hope you enjoy the experience as much as I have – and if you find yourself writing a story and you don’t have anywhere to be this second, why not order another coffee… Comments are closed.
